KDM Constructors is a Saskatchewan-based general contracting, project management, and skilled trades service provider. Position
Reporting to the Lead Safety Advisor and indirectly to the Corporate Safety Manager, you will be responsible for the overall safety practices, training, and safety management plan for site. Through safe and timely execution, you will play an advisory role with respect to safety on the job.
This position will be 7 days on, 7 days off rotation, 10 hours per day. This schedule may be subject to change based on the needs of the client.
This position will be located at BHP Mine Site – Jansen, SK. This is a camp-based position. The Discovery Lodge at BHP is a state-of-the-art camp that includes the following: full-service cafeteria, housekeeping, gym with a raised running track, library, and theatre.
Job Duties
- Review project learning’s and best practice and incorporate into the project specific Safety Management Plan
- Review hazard identification (JHA’s) and risk assessments/matrix and ensure implementation of identified controls are effective
- Audit safety systems that are implemented in the field
- Act as Lead with field supervisors for incident investigations and reports
- Perform statistical analysis and injury/damage trend reviews and communicate findings to site
- Workplace inspections, focus audits and competency checks where authorized and certified
- Maintain and update the KDM’s training matrix
- Maintain and update the site hazardous and controlled product registry (WHMIS)
- Participate in plan task observation and behavior-based activities
- Participate, as appropriate, in responding to workplace incidents or emergencies
- Receipt and circulation of relevant Safety information such as lessons learned
- Complete and submit all weekly safety activity reports for project to client
- Attend all weekly Client Progress meetings, speak on all safety related stats
- Administer site specific training for workers which would include all KDM safe work procedures and practices, Fire Extinguisher, Hazard Analysis, Spotter, Safe Work Observation cards, SCOT, TDG, Ground Disturbance etc
- Audit implementation of corrective actions from incident investigations as well maintain an up to date site corrective action log, ensure execution and effectiveness
- Conduct the weekly site safety meeting for all KDM site team
- Support the site Occupational Health and Safety Committee
- Maintain the safety notice board/safety postings board for project on a weekly basis
- Submit all incident investigations along with corrective and preventative actions to client safety within expected time frame, depending on client requirements
- Complete lessons learned for all incident/injury and high potential near miss
- Lead site injury case management
- Ordering off any site-specific safety gear and PPE
- Maintain a site log of all fire extinguishers and ensure that a monthly inspection is completed on the extinguishers (site labor crew will complete the inspections)
- Track safety deliverables for KDM site supervision on a weekly basis
- Support and assist with the site behavior-based observation program
- Conduct critical audits as per the site standard
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have;
- Knowledge of relevant Safety laws, codes of practice and standards applicable to the project and province
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a safety, operations role
- Effective self-managing, good problem-solving skills, planning, organizing and priority setting skills combined with a strong work ethic
- Ability to think critically and make independent decisions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be open and flexible to change, take initiative and be a team player
- Basic computer knowledge
- Pre-employment medical exam and drug test will be required.
